Family History

This page touches on some of our family history, and will obviously be a work in progress as long as our family exists. If you aren't here, it could be because we couldn't find a good photo, we ran out of disk space, or we forgot! Don't take it personally.

Grandpa John Colonna had a major impact on our lives (for the better!!). Because he invited Denise to Texas, Donald was able to find his sweetheart. Besides lots of lively dinner discussions, we learned a lot from him. Donald is an engineer largely because of his efforts to help him conquer Calculus! Anyway he is the smallest boy of the children in the picture above (lower right corner). He said his sister Binden (smallest girl), reminded him of Natasha. His father fought in the civil war, and was the head of the first governmental scientific agency, the coastal geographic survey. Grandpa was educated at VMI as a chemist and was in charge of air field construction for the North African campaign in world war II. He has helped more families and people than can be counted! As he always said "we live on in people's thoughts and memories", so everytime we catch the girls singing "you can't get beer on Sunday" (at Church no less), we know he will always be with us.

Grandpa Bryce and Grandma Polly had a big influence on Donald as he was growing up. They were the grandparents you went and did things with! They took him and all the grandchildren sailing. They were both teachers, and he also fought in world war II as part of the Navy. They raised their 3 girls all over the world. Donald spent many hours playing Mathematical Games with him growing up, and visiting them in San Diego for tennis tournaments. They were able to attend our wedding in 1985, and let him know we had planned on naming our first child Bryce! Bryce has some big shoes to follow.
